Compliant with EN1176 and EN1177, installed « in situ », our unique system is made from two layers of carefully designed and selected cork granules : a shock absorbing base layer, and a wear resistant top layer.
Years of R&D enabled us to offer you the perfectly designed cork granules for a 100% reliable surfacing system. Choosing Green Grounds™ is also the guarantee of granulated cork with constant features for every batch, which is not as simple as it sounds. In other words, we produce an homogeneous product out of an heterogeneous raw material, to ensure a fully standardised and reliable laying.

Safety first !
With an in-situ laying ranging from 40 to 100 mm, the main role our 100% natural Base Layer is to provide optimum fall protection. As a result, our base layer offers HIC (Head Injury Criterion) and gmax (peak acceleration) scores compliant with EN1177.
Years of R&D enabled us to identify the perfect balance between fall protection, binder consumption, drainage capacity and lifespan of our base layer. Taking all those criteria into account, we opted for pure expanded cork granules. Despite its black color, expanded cork is composed of 100% natural cork granules, which have been heated to 350°C (giving them this unique black look). This heating process offers great advantages compared to non-expanded cork granules :
- Great impact absorptionthanks to millions of expanded cells per cm3, all acting as tiny insulating cushions
- Lightness with an mean bulk density of 67 kg/m3, which lowers physical exertion for workers and minimize environmental impact of transportation.
- Moisture-content below 4%, ideal for the curing process when applying the binder-granule mix
Yet, we had to manage critical factors with expanded cork granules, such as non-homogenous particle-size distribution, and high levels of dust. Thanks to our expertise and a drastic quality policy, we are the only company in the world guaranteeing an homogenous particle-size distribution and a fully dedusted product. Those are key elements for a hassle-free laying of the cork compound.

We recently focused our R&D efforts on designing hybrid compounds, to maximize the life span of our natural top layers. No compromise with nature, as we decided that those compounds should contain a vast majority of cork granules. The results are beyond our expectations : the pinch of mineral or synthetic granules that we selected drastically enhance the wear-resistance of our top layers, without sacrifying cork properties such as impact-absorption, drainage capacity or smooth touch.
